Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during a Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy session?
During the first part of your session, we will talk about what your
goals are and what specifically you want to work on during that
session. You will then move into a comfortable, reclined position and
begin a guided relaxation, which will lead you into hypnosis. You will
feel relaxed and calm. I will guide you to access the information in
your subconscious that you need to make the changes you desire.
You may feel intense emotions, or you may feel quiet and calm the
entire time. You may experience vivid imagery, sounds, sensations or
even smells. I will then guide you through healing therapies, such as
imagery, affirmations, relaxation or emotional release techniques.
You will then wake up feeling relaxed and refreshed. You will have full
memory of everything that happened during the session.
Will you make me cluck like a chicken?
Since most people have only seen hypnosis as part of a stage show
where people act in ways to entertain the crowd, they may have
concerns about doing odd things after hypnosis. Therapeutic
hypnosis is very different. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, meaning that
you allow yourself to relax as you follow my suggestions. I don't do
anything to you! And you won't do or say anything that you are not
completely willing to. You are in complete control of yourself during a
session.
What is the difference between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy are related terms. Hypnosis is the state
of relaxation that all of us can achieve where our conscious, critical
mind is quieted and our inner subconscious thoughts, desires,
emotions, feelings and memories can be accessed. Your mind is also
open to suggestions, but again, only those that you are willing to
adopt. Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis. Think of it
as counseling under hypnosis. You get to quiet your inner critic and
heal the inner wounds. This generally allows for quicker insight into
the origins of your issues, and also for quicker healing.
What if I can't be hypnotized?
Nonsense! Everyone can be hypnotized. It is a state of mind that we
all go in and out of throughout the day. Have you ever been driving
down the highway and realized that you don't remember the last few
miles or minutes? That is a state of hypnosis. You do have to be
comfortable and willing to relax into the hypnotic state, however. The
more often you engage in hypnosis, the easier and deeper you will
go into hypnosis, but everyone receives benefits even on the first
session.
How will I feel after my session?
This varies by individual. Often times clients will experience an
emotional release during a session and this can feel quite refreshing,
and others may feel a bit drained. I always close a session with
healing therapies, revitalizing imagery and affirmations, so even
though you may experience some deep emotions, you should leave
the session feeling relaxed and refreshed.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from individual to individual and also
depends on the complexity of change that you are looking to make.
For some it may take only 3 sessions, for others it may take 12 or
more sessions to reach all of your goals.
What if I pre-pay for sessions and don't use them all?
You can gift or sell the sessions to someone else, or you can receive
a pro-rated refund.
What diet will you put me on?
Do you realize that "going on a diet" actually makes you gain weight
by slowing your metabolism, creating cravings and lowering your
self-esteem? Plus, losing weight and gaining it back is worse for your
health than being overweight. My approach is quite different. The
only effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to change your
habits - eating & drinking, physical activity, sleep and stress
management - gradually over time.
I gently guide my clients through changes so they develop new
healthy habits that will last a life-time. You will start by adding in real,
whole foods into what you are currently eating so there will be no
feelings of deprivation. And as your body begins to get the nutrients
it needs, your cravings will subside and you will actually being craving
healthy foods. You will never have to go on a diet again! And you
never have to gain back the weight you lost. You will be able to eat
any food you want, in amounts that are appropriate for you. You will
easily be able to resist foods that do not support your health. Won't
that feel great?
As for my food philosophy, I believe that real, whole foods (as close
to the way they are in nature - including fat!) are the healthiest foods
for everyone. These foods are nutritionally dense and complete,
which our bodies recognize and appreciate. I believe that diets like
vegan, raw, or paleo can be therapeutic for some individuals, but
may not be right for people at all times of their lives.
